Power Suit - gender politics

"The notion that a contemporary woman must look mannish in order to be taken seriously as a seeker of power is frankly dismaying." Anna Wintour commented in her editor's letter after Clinton refused to appear in Vogue.

Are women who care "too much" about appearance and dress "too nicely" lacking the brain power? We always have to make the balance. It seems that if a woman (or man?!) wants someone to take her seriously, she better dresses in a way that shows it. As for Clinton, I couldn't know exactly why she refused Vogue's invitation. Yet, one of the possibilities might probably be the battle of identity between a fashionable woman and an able political candidate.
